Good news! There are some excellent free programs available.
CAVEAT EMPTOR: My advice on free software is that USUALLY you get what you pay for. However, I use and recommend a handful of free programs, utilities and add-ons.
Be careful when downloading & installing any software.

Even Microsoft will try to install additional apps, change browser search engines & home pages.
Scan carefully each and every page, dialogue box and pop-up of Next and Continue where the default option often includes unwanted extras. Boo, Microsoft, boo (Skype, for one). Also see Adobe, Java, etc.
